Statement of Faith
What we believe at Gateway
Gateway Baptist Church is a fundamental, independent, Bible-believing, local Baptist church. We preach, teach, and practice the principles of the word of God.
We believe that salvation is the free pardon of sins and the free gift of eternal life to those who put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work at Calvary, and that once saved the Christian is eternally secure in Christ, and sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise (Ephesians 1:13) so that one cannot "lose salvation. (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9; John 5:24; Galatians 2:16; I John 5:13)
We believe the absolute and final authority for faith and practice is the word of God as contained in the King James 1611 Authorized Version of the Holy Bible. We affirm that the sixty-six books of the Bible are inerrant divinelyand uniquely inspired, and are given to mankind written as they were inspired by the Spirit of God. These Scriptures are divinely intended for personal study and interpretation under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We believe the Bible is inspired and preserved by God. (2 Timothy 3:16; Psalm 12:6, 7; Matthew 4:4)
The LORD JESUS CHRIST
We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, sinless life, vicarious blood atonement for sinners, literal bodily resurrection from the dead, current priestly intercession for the saved at the right hand of the Father, and His soon return. (1 Tim. 3:16; 1 Pet 3:18; Rom 8:34; John 14:3)
We believe that water baptism is by immersion and only for believers. It has no saving merits whatsoever and is simply an act of obedience and a matter of testimony for the Christian. It is to be done in the "name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." (Matthew 28:19)
We believe that Christians are a "peculiar people" who should be "unspotted from the world " and do their best to maintain a good testimony for Jesus Christ before the world. (Romans 12:1,2; I Thessalonians 5:21, 22; James 1:27)
We truly believe it is our duty as believers to witness for the Lord Jesus Christ. Each member of the body of Christ is responsible for being an "outreach to the unreached". (Matthew 28:19,20; Mark 16:15; Acts 20:20)
